B'nai B'rith presents the 56th Annual Charity Sports Banquet Wednesday, May 12, 2010 featuring Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
B'nai Brith is honored to welcome this basketball great and sports legend to highlight the 56th Annual Charity Sports Banquet. Of his many tributes, B'nai B'rith highlights these: Between 1971 and 1980, he was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player six times. He led his teams to six NBA Championship victories between 1971 and 1988, and earned a spot on the NBA All-Star team an incredible 19 times. To this day, he remains the NBA's all-time leading scorer with 38,387 points.
Off the basketball court, Abdul-Jabbar has written six history books about African-Americans and their contributions to American hisotry and culture. One of his books, On the Shoulders of Giants: My Journey Through the Harlem Renaissance, published 2007, appeared on the New York Times and Los Angeles Times bestseller lists.
