Nebraska volleyball had little trouble rolling to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Volleyball tournament, sweeping Miami 25-19, 25-14, 25-18 Saturday night at the Devaney Center. The win sent the Huskers into the round of 16 for the 40th time in the past 43 years.
Nebraska’s (31-2) effort was balanced. No one had double-digit kills, but five Huskers had at least six. Harper Murray paced the effort with nine kills while hitting a healthy .412 and also notching 12 digs. Taylor Landfair and Merritt Beason both tallied eight kills, while Rebekah Allick and Andi Jackson registered six. Allick led the block with seven stuffs, while Bergen Reilly had 33 set assists. Flormarie Heredia Colon led Miami (22-11) with 14 kills and 12 digs, but only one other Hurricane had more than four kills.
Nebraska outhit Miami, .293-.058, outblocked UM 10-7, and outserved them three aces to one. The Hurricanes led 1-0 in the first set before the Cornhuskers took control, then held leads 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 in set three before a seven-point run erased any doubt that the match would be a sweep.
The win was Nebraska’s 43rd straight victory at home and 24th straight NCAA home match win.
Nebraska now advances to the regional semifinals to take on Dayton either Thursday or Friday at the Devaney Center. The date and time of the match will be determined later this weekend. The other match in Lincoln will feature No. 2 regional seed Wisconsin, who the Huskers have already defeated twice, against No. 6 seed Texas A&M, which upset Arizona State in four sets Saturday. The Aggies’ athletic director is Trev Alberts, who was NU’s athletic director and before that a College Football Hall of Famer for the Huskers in the 90s. Since Alberts’ surprise departure in March 2024, Nebraska and Texas A&M have met in the NCAA tournament in both men’s and women’s basketball.
