Gophers outlast Huskers in series opener

By Nate Rohr May 2, 2025 | 11:29 PM

Jake Larson’s two-run single in the top of the 10th propelled Minnesota to a 6-4 win over Nebraska baseball Friday at Hawks Field in Lincoln.

Jameson Martin led off the top of the 10th with a walk. After a sacrifice bunt moved Martin to third, Jake Perry singled to right, moving Martin to third. Brayden Hellum came on to run for Jake Perry, and immediately stole second. Then Larson singled to right, scoring two runs.

Before that, the story of the game had been Nebraska’s comeback. The game was tied at one after one inning, but a three-run fourth had given the Golden Gophers a 4-1 lead. But the Huskers fought their way back into the game with a run in the seventh, one in the eighth and one in the ninth.

But in the end, Eli Sundquist (3-1) earned the win out of the Minnesota bullpen, allowing one earned run in 1.2 innings pitched. Luke Broderick (2-2) took the loss, surrendering two earned runs in 1.2 innings pitched.

Joshua Overbeek and Cayden Brumbaugh were both 2-for-5 to pace the Huskers offense, while Weber Neals was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and an RBI to lead Minnesota.

The series continues with game two at Hawks Field in Lincoln Saturday at 2 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 1:30 p.m. on 105.3 The Bone.
