In front of a packed Ord High School gym, Nebraska volleyball rolled in its second and final match of the spring, beating South Dakota State 25-18, 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 Saturday in Ord, Neb. The Cornhuskers won all eight sets of their spring matches against Kansas and the Jackrabbits.
Harper Murray led Nebraska with 12 kills while Andi Jackson added 11. Jackson registered a double-double with 10 blocks for the four sets. Filling in for Bergen Reilly, who was battling a sore wrist, freshman Campbell Flynn tallied 44 set assists. The Huskers outblocked South Dakota State, 21-8. While Nebraska hit .333 in the first three sets and .273 in the fourth, the Jackrabbits mustered only an .034 hitting percentage the first three sets and (-.024) hitting percentage in the fourth.
The Huskers stumbled out of the gate, trailing 8-2 in the first set. But control of the first set swung to Nebraska when NU won eight straight points and 11 of the next 12 rallies. The Huskers finished the first set with a flourish, running the last five points, including four in a row with newcomer Teraya Sigler serving. Sigler got the setpoint kill to finish the first.
Nebraska led throughout the second set, pulling away with a 5-0 run to build an 18-11 lead. Again, the Huskers finished strong with four straight points, the last three coming on blocks by Rebekah Allick. The momentum continued into the third, as the Huskers bolted out to leads of 7-1 and 12-2. Again Sigler finished off a set with a kill. The fourth set started close until Nebraska ran five straight points and seven of eight to lead 17-11. South Dakota State pulled to within one at 19-18, before NU won five of the last six rallies to finish the match.
The Huskers will next hit the court against another school on August 22, as Nebraska takes on Pitt at Pinnacle Back Arena at the AVCA First Serve Showcase.
