Most women have at one time or another been told some really sexist things by those of the opposite sex, and now some of those gals are sharing.
It all started when a woman on TikTok shared an incident from a trip to a menswear store, where the male employee told her, and not her fiancé, who was standing right next to her and buying a shirt for himself, how to properly care for it. “The male employee scanning my fiance’s new shirt,” she writes, “As he’s scanning he says ‘make sure you take care of these. Make sure u wash cold, hang to dry, iron.’”
The post prompted lots of other women to chime in with the ridiculously sexist things they’ve been told throughout their life, and we bet most women can relate.
They include:
- “My former boss at a café once told me to always use the calculator when someone pays in cash because ‘I’m a woman so I can’t do maths.’”
- “My dad told me to do the dishes. I said ‘let the boys do it’ and he’s like your a girl and it’s your job, don’t embarrass my boys by making them do dishes.’”
- “My dad told me women don’t belong in politics and if I ever ran for president he wouldn’t vote for me because I’m a girl.”
- “Me and my siblings work for my dad. I get paid $5 an hour and my brother gets paid $20. He says he deserves it more because he’s a man.”
- “My dad says the world has gone to (sh*t) since women started wearing trousers and got the right to.”
- “When I was 11 a teacher wanted someone to demonstrate pushups. I volunteered, he said ‘no I need a boy, girls can’t do pushups.’”
- “At the end of my cousin’s wedding the male cleaner looked over at my sister and I and says, ‘you should be doing this.’”
- “My ex told me that my dog wouldn’t respect me because I’m a woman.”
- “I was going through a hard time and I was ‘sad’ at work and my boss told me, ‘Jessica I know you are depressed but your period can’t last a whole year.’”
- “I was 12 and my dad had me go up to the store to buy an iron. This old man smiled at me and went it’s great you know your place being so young.”
