Gary Sharp

Gary Sharp has been a familiar voice on KOZN for the last nine years. He joined the station after 16 years of sports marketing experience working with such franchises as the Fort Myers Miracle, Minnesota Twins, Wheeling Nailers, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Sharp began his career serving as pre-game host, sideline reporter, locker room host, and sports talk show host for the Nebraska Sports Network. During that time, he was also the play-by-play voice for Nebraska Baseball and the Lincoln Stars. Sharp continues to do play-by-play for Omaha Men’s Basketball and does TV work for Cox and Midco. He can also be heard on the station’s coverage of the College World Series.

The Urbandale, Iowa native has been recognized by his peers as the Nebraska Sportscaster of the Year and has collected numerous marketing/promotion awards from Major League Baseball.

Gary is active in the community with Big Brothers-Big Sisters of the Midlands and other service projects.

Nick Handley

Nick Handley returns to1620 The Zone after spending the last nine years as a sports talk show host on AM590 ESPN Omaha. During that time, he also served as one of the play-by-play announcers for the University of Nebraska Baseball on the Huskers Radio Network. Nick is currently the public address announcer voice for the Omaha Maverick Hockey team, having announced over 300 games.

Nick got his start in radio in 2000 with 1620 The Zone covering high school sports. He then took over as Sports Director for five radio stations in Columbus, Neb. for seven years. While there, Handley hosted an afternoon sports talk show and was a play-by-play announcer for area high dchool sports. Nick has been the public address announcer for Creighton Women’s Basketball, Omaha Aksarben Knights Hockey, Omaha Men’s and Women’s Basketball, and Omaha Stormchasers Baseball.

Handley is a Millard West grad, and attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The Omaha native coached high school baseball at Millard North and Columbus from 2002-2013. Nick has also been a volunteer softball coach for Special Olympics-Nebraska. He spends his free time with his wife and son, and LOTS of golfing. He’s a long-time fan of the Chicago Bears, the Cleveland Guardians, and the Chicago Blackhawks.

Jimmy Chavez

Jimmy Chavez has dedicated his career to the radio broadcasting industry for more than 20 years. He has served in a variety of roles including play-by-play broadcaster, show host, update anchor, and reporter. He recently spent the seven seasons calling games for the University of Kansas, including NCAA Tournament games, for the women’s basketball team. During his time with the Jayhawk Radio network, he also has filled in, calling men’s basketball and football, and served as a sideline reporter for football.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Jimmy earned his broadcast journalism degree at the University of Kansas. He has worked in the radio industry in multiple Kansas cities, including Colby, Wichita, and Lawrence. He also worked within the Kansas City Metro and nationally in Houston, Texas. He currently does freelance play-by-play in the Omaha Metro and hosts the Creighton Bluejay Shootaround pregame show.

Jimmy married into a native Husker family. When he’s not talking about Nebraska sports, he likes to remind people about his other favorite team – the Kansas Jayhawks, specifically the Jayhawk football team. Jimmy also cheers for his two favorite Texas teams, the San Antonio Spurs and begrudgingly, the Dallas Cowboys.

Jimmy and his wife are proud parents to a spoiled rotten Yorkie named Baylee.
